Reframe your career using the What’s Your Latte method. As a recruiter and career coach, I’ve worked with hundreds of individuals who embarked on career changes. Candidates were placed in a combination of new companies, new industries, and new cities and would often ask me about the choices that lay in front of them.
I’d ask them how they’d like their latte. They’d offer me an odd glance before I’d explain: Consider the coffee shop down the street. There are so many different ways people could order one cup of coffee that no two orders seem the same. Almond milk, chocolate sauce, an extra shot of espresso? We can judge the fit of our next career move the same way. Don’t limit your options by salary and title only.
Life is no longer an ordinary cup of java. A better measure of your career evaluation could also include items found on Liz and Mollie's popular graph of Mental & Physical Health, Job Title, Free Time, and Job Satisfaction.
So, tell me, how do you like your latte?
